greg hits The Rocks:  31 July - 11 August 2015

Greg Clarke will show over 30 of his stunning new photomontages in a pop-up gallery space in The Rocks from Friday 31 July 2015.

Greg makes the maximum out of the minimum as he saturates his photographs in vivid colour to heighten each other’ effect. He also strips back the composition down to its very bare essentials, eliminating any unwanted detail.

Photographing his subjects exactly 36 times from 36 different perspectives the photographs are then meticulously laid out in a grid to create the final highly stylised geometric abstract work. Created over the last two months on a road trip from Sydney to the Whitsundays, the series features the iconic and the unknown, from Sydney’s Lunar Park to an abandoned tennis court in central Queensland.

With a love of modernist architecture many Sydney buildings feature in Greg’s work including Harry Seidler’s Australia Square, Sydney Uni’s Fisher Library and the Reserve Bank and MLC building in Martin Place. Nature also features in many of the works, especially trees that are shot from below against the brilliant slab of colour of the wide-open Australian sky.

Greg will also be showing a selection of work that he describes as pop-street photography that he shot in Seoul, Hong Kong and Taipei in 2014 that like his photomontages, are saturated in colour.

Greg, the exhibition runs from 31 July to 11 August at 47 George Street, The Rocks (entrance via 6-8 Atherden Street). Open Mon. - Sun., 10am - 5pm.

Admission to the exhibition is free.

The Rocks Pop-up is an initiative of Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority to find creative uses for temporarily vacant buildings, attracting new visitors to Sydney’s historic heart.
